| Above the surface at Wonderland Cave you stand on what, 300 million years ago, was the floor of a vast ocean, once teeming with life that included myriad shellfish. As they died, they settled to the bottom in thick layers, eventually to form limestone. About 60 million years ago volcanic action heaved granite upward thrusting through the limestone forming the Black Hills. Water slowly dissolved the soft limestone to form mysterious caverns, grottoes and passageways shining with magnificent crystals. From this creation Mother Nature developed a Wonderland of Beauty.
